Why Piano Tuning is Not Simple
The sounding range of a piano is quite unique among musical instruments. With 88 total musical notes (pitches) on most pianos, the sounding range is more than 7 octaves long! In addition, each of the 88 musical notes that a piano is capable of sounding are produced by as many as three separate strings.
So as far as piano tunings are concerned, the process is not “simple”. Think of a guitar or violin with 4, 6, or 12 strings each representing one note. The “E” string on a violin or guitar is tuned to the “E” pitch. End of discussion. On a piano, there are 88 notes and somewhere between 200 and 250 strings!
The sound you hear when the “E” in the very middle of the piano is played, is produced by three separate strings sounding in unison to produce the “E” pitch. All three strings must be tuned individually, and to the same pitch. When they are not, the sound you hear usually sticks out like a sore thumb.
Fine piano tuning requires an assessment of the interaction among notes, which is different for every piano, thus in practice requiring slightly different pitches from any theoretical standard.
Piano Tunings That Stand Out
We Guarantee It. Really.
High Quality, Professional Piano Tunings
We tune pianos and service pianos every day. It’s what we do. You are not just having us over to turn some tuning pins and tighten or loosen some wires on your piano. Whether you have a spinet, and upright, or a concert grand piano, you’ll receive our best piano tuning.
Science Behind Piano Tuning
We utilize our thorough understanding of the scientific theory behind piano tuning which results in the absolute best pitch, tone, and sound possible—all tailored specifically to your piano. What we do is make minute adjustments to the tensions of the strings on your piano to properly align the intervals between their tones so that the instrument is in tune.
Enjoy Your Piano
We do not just tune your piano and walk away. Squeaky pedals, stuck keys, and many other things you do not think about until the tuning is over can all be addressed during your tuning. We find these issues and take care of them for you. We ensure you receive the most enjoyment from your piano. That’s what it’s all about.
Proper Tone Through Tuning
Overall tone and color of the piano’s sound are influenced by proper piano tuning. Lack of attention to detail when setting pitch of a note can have a negative impact on the final sound of the piano. The piano will be in tune (sort of), but is the sound fully enjoyable and the best it can be? We pride ourselves in being able to tune for proper pitch and tone. You will not be disappointed.
